This cease-and-desist letter is to notify you about our recent discovery of your research article, title [x] which is an exact duplicate of my research work. As per the law of copyrights, plagiarism is a serious offense and is invasive. A writer writes from sheer hard work and to see his work with someone else’s name is probably the last thing he would like to see.
Of course, one publishes one’s work to share the knowledge with the public but if somebody is using his/her ideas or words he should quote and cite the author properly. Appreciation and acknowledgment are what he wants. MLA, APA, Chicago, and many other associations are made for the purpose to avoid plagiarism by acknowledging the author. They provide proper ways to cite the original work and to give credit to the original writer.
I discovered your article on 20th October 20xx while I was surfing through the internet. You not only have taken my ideas but also have exactly replicated the wording too. This act of yours is not tolerable at all, so I want to claim my copyrights on it and want you to remove your authorship from the said article [x].
I can claim the copyrights for two reasons:
- My work is already published and was written and published before your article, so it precedes yours.
- The law gives me the authority to claim copyrights to my original work.
If you do not remove your authorship, I will certainly take the help of the court to get it done. Let me clarify that such activities as plagiarism give me the right to sue you in court.
In case you want to settle this matter outside the court, please fill in and send back the form I have attached with this letter. This form declares that you are apologetic for your act of plagiarism and will not do it again moreover, you will take back the authorship of the said article.
You need to send this form to me within 15 days of receiving this letter. If you will fail to do so, I will claim my copyrights and next you will be hearing from my attorney. Hopefully, you will comply with this request. Awaiting your response.
