Thank you so much for writing to me. I hope you are doing well. I have received your letter for payment in the morning and I am writing in response to it. First, I would like to thank you for reminding me that the amount of the loan is still outstanding. Secondly, accept my gratitude to offer me to visit you and talk about this issue.

I was out of the country for a business trip and was not able to reach you. My number was switched off so I could not return your calls. You sent me this letter a week ago but I have received it this morning when I returned from my trip. Probably you will consider it a hoax story so I am sharing a copy of my air ticket for your assurance with this letter.

You have talked about taking legal action against me, I completely agree that you have a complete right to do so as the deadline has passed and the amount is overdue for more than two weeks now. I have also received a notice from the court to appear for a hearing but here is what I propose, I will send you the outstanding payment in full and the amount of interest by 7th April 20xx if you agree to waive off the charges of court.

I have prepared a legal agreement for it and sending it to you along with this letter. Please go through it thoroughly and let me know if you agree to sign a new agreement with me. If it is an affirmative answer, please give me a call at my number [x] or write to me again.

Settlement letter -2

I am writing in response to the legal notice I have received yesterday regarding my outstanding payment. I was out of town. My mother was not well. She was suffering from Arthritis and had major surgery last week. By the grace of Almighty, she is recovering now but due to this reason, I could not receive your letters.

Moreover, my phone was stolen by a pickpocket. Hence, I could not return your call. Now that I am back in town, I am writing to you.

As far as this legal notice is concerned, I request you to please take your claim back. I will send you the outstanding amount and the amount of the interest within 7 days. If you agree to my proposal, please let me know so we can sign a new agreement. In case you need to discuss anything with me you may reach me at my number [x] or you may write back to me.
